Caloric and macronutrient tracking is a great way to start or maintain your health journey, but it can be a big commitment to take on.  However, a slew of applications have come out to help people with this commitment.  One of these applications is MyNet Diary and here we will be giving a general overview and review of this nutrition assistant.  This review will be on the free version of the application for iOS devices (iPhones and iPads).

The application itself has a very user-friendly design, which first brings you to the home screen or “dashboard”. This displays your total caloric budget for the day, along with a presentation of the calories you have consumed for your meals and snacks.  Also included is a step counter, water consumption tracker, and exercise tracker. Scrolling down, you can see your daily analysis and general weekly caloric tracking.  Finally, at the very end of the dashboard, you will find an option to input weigh-ins and track your weight according to a weight loss plan that you set for yourself.  In addition to the home screen, there is a “coach” tab that goes over advising according to your personal trends, and a “social” tab where you can connect with others.  Also included is a “me” tab where you can manage your foods, measurements, recipes, and general account.

The MyNetDiary Website has a quote from Women’sHealth that states, “You really can’t go wrong with MyNetDiary as a scientifically proven  way to help you lose weight.”  The team at San Jacinto Chiropractic couldn’t agree more.  We have found that MyNetDiary is incredibly easy to use and makes calorie tracking almost effortless.  Having the caloric quantities of food pre-counted from certain restaurants and brands of food makes logging your calories a quick process.  Another incredibly convenient feature of the application is that it connects with exercise bands like apple watches or fit bits to keep track of your calories burned with exercise.  Users are also able to track their exercise manually, simply by choosing the category of exercise they completed and the amount of time they engaged in said activity.  With that said, the free use of the application is very thorough.

Dr. Lay and staff at San Jacinto Chiropractic love this nutrition assistant application and have even used it as fun competition in the office.  Not only is it a fun tool to hold one another accountable, but it is extremely useful in holding oneself accountable as well.  This application has been helpful in getting a better understanding of the caloric content of food and thus encouraged better eating habits and choosing healthier food options, especially snacks.

The “premium” subscription for the application is $59.99/year or $8.99/month with a seven day free trial.  MyNetDiary claims that premium members report losing three times the weight that free users of the application do.  Additionally, a more in-depth analysis is offered with premium membership along with the claim that premium members can “achieve long-lasting results.”  There are some positive reviews on the premium membership from several sources such as Business Insider, USA Today and Health Line along with many personal accounts and reviews that share good experiences.  With that said,  the team at San Jacinto Chiropractic only used the free version of the application and therefore can only speak on what benefits this version had.

All in all, we would highly recommend using this application for food/caloric tracking.  The individuals in the San Jacinto Chiropractic team have been extremely satisfied with the use of the application and we would recommend our patients use it as well if they are looking for a nutrition assistant.
